Learn more about our Hockey Program
Founded in 1991, we are a non-profit community of some 400 families who come together each year to offer our youth a chance to play the great game of ice hockey! With over 20 travel teams, ADM, Hockey Development Programs, and more than 500 players, we have become one of the largest youth hockey organization in Western PA.
Our mission is to provide our players with a competitive and complete youth hockey experience. We believe every player’s hockey experience should include improvement in fundamental hockey skills as well as life lessons learned through the team experience. At North Pittsburgh, our goal is to put our kids first!
PLAY FOR THE WILDCATS!
At North Pittsburgh, we realize that families have a choice when it comes to selecting a program for their youth hockey players. We believe that parents should enroll their players in programs where they feel they are best served. That said, we believe that there are many benefits to being a Wildcat, and we would like to share just a few of them below.
EXPERIENCE, VALUE, COMMUNITY & CONVENIENCE
- Competition. At North Pittsburgh, we have designed our programming to allow for a competitive hockey experience at every level of play. Our teams compete successfully in every venue in which they participate. Whether it be it our local league (PAHL), or independent games, tournaments, or playoffs, North Pittsburgh offers each of its teams a chance to succeed at a level that is appropriate to their needs.
- Value. North Pittsburgh's organizational fees are competitive with the fees at other local organizations, and in some cases our fees are a fraction of the cost of some competing programs. Our programs feature an opportunity for a comparable game schedule, often playing the exact same opponents that competing programs face, all while offering a similar amount of practice time.
- Facility. The new ownership group at Baierl Ice Complex has been steadily making improvements to our home rink. With new lighting, a shooting station, a pro shop, a fitness center, and future plans for improvements, we are seeing a true revitalization of the facility. The new owners invested in the rink for our community and for the advancement of our game, and that investment is in place for the long haul.
- Location. For many of our players, our rink is close to home, central to school districts like Pine-Richland, Seneca Valley, Mars, and North Allegheny, saving you money and time. It's also close to nearby retail shopping, restaurants, hotels, and it is easily accessible, within a few minutes of major highways such as I-79 and the PA Turnpike.
- Continuity. Players who grow up in the North Pittsburgh system have an opportunity to build true camaraderie and lifelong friendships with teammates, coaches, and our families as they progress through our program and on up to the next level of play.
- Development. Our players have unique opportunities to build and improve on their hockey skills within our organization. North Pittsburgh offers professional power skating and goaltender instruction to all travel players, and position-specific training opportunities through programs such as the North Pittsburgh Goaltending University. NPYHA has offered and will continue to offer programs for specific skills development.
- Growth. Participants are welcome to learn the game in our programs from ages 4 on up. We have programming offerings for all kids up through their teenage years, and our programs are middle school and high school friendly. We encourage players to get additional ice time and further development while playing with their schoolmates in addition to playing for our teams.
North Pittsburgh is a premier youth hockey organization in the region and has been in existence for over 20 years. We offer many options for hockey players of all ages and skill level. We offer stability in the ever-changing landscape of youth hockey. You can rest assured knowing that we are a long established, financially stable organization dedicated to development of all levels of youth hockey.
